Mountain CAP offers the following programs and services.
Head Start - Prepares children ages 3 and 4 for the public school systen and provides education opportunities that are developmentally appropriate.
Project Discovery - Works with high school students from disadvantaged households and focuses on enabling these youngster to become the first in their family to graduate from college.
Weatherization - Provides weatherization services to qualifying families such as infiltration, water heater insulation, attic insulation, venting, floor insulation, heating/cooling system inspection.
Emergency Home Repair - Assists low-income families and individuals to remove imminent health and safety hazards and/or barriers to habitation of their homes.
Outreach and Emergency Services – Our Outreach department is the backbone of the Mountain CAP efforts to serve low-income residents with a hand-up not a hand-out. Clients wishing to take advantage of the programs available at Mountain CAP are screened by our Outreach workers in order to verify eligibility for our programs.
Emergency Services - Types of emergency services include: transportation, dental, heating, medication, rent/deposit and utility/deposit. All funds for emergency services are provided through local grants and donations from individuals, churches and civic organizations. Without these donations, the agency could not provide a necessary service to clients in need.
Income Tax Preparation – Mountain CAP provides free income tax preparation to qualifying families and individuals through the VITA Program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) through the Internal Revenue Service. Free training is provided to those interested in becoming a VITA volunteer.
Financial Literacy – Outreach staff provide budget counseling to those requesting emergency and/or financial assistance.
