The 2017 SWVA Careers Expo for Youth was developed to provide an experience for middle school students to future career paths as a snapshot to decision making. Seventh grade students from schools around the region will participate in this event by rotating through the quadrants to explore career demonstrations provided by up to 100 businesses.
Students from 17 school systems will be participating with a total of over 4,000 students coming through the business demonstration area.
Volunteers will assist in ensuring this event runs smoothly. Brief volunteer position descriptions are:
Pre-Event Set-Up Volunteer - Assist with layout and set-up of booths, tables, chairs, etc. Business Station Set-Up - Help businesses with booths get set up in a timely manner. Backpack Assemblers - Stuff student backpacks. (A pre-event opportunity)
During Event Registration - Register volunteers, businesses and visitors. Student Arrival - Board buses to welcome students and ensure orderly/timely unloading. Student Welcome - Prepare and distribute "supplies" for incoming students. Student Exit - Help to load buses in an orderly and timely fashion. Runners and Relievers - Will provide short term breaks for businesses and volunteers. Registration - Register volunteers, businesses and visitors. Zone - Will encourage students to participate in activities and help manage flow of students. Lunch (Volunteers & Businesses) - Work with caterer to distribute lunches. Lunch (Students) - Direct and oversee schools who have brought lunches to eat on site. Hospitality - Welcome visitors and ensure that the area is well stocked and tidy. Maintenance - Assure that areas are kept clean and pathways cleared.
Post Event Break Down and Clean Up - Breakdown booths, gather chairs and tables, general cleaning.
